Got Milk?
How does a dairy share work?
The only way to get raw milk in Virginia is through your own cow. A dairy share gives you the opportunity to become a part owner in our herd of Jersey cows. You pay a one-time fee towards the purchase of a cow, and a monthly boarding fee for its care, and in exchange you get 1/2 gallon of fresh, local, raw milk a week.
What is the cost?
There are 3 parts to the cost: your initial buy in (one-time fee), your boarding fee (monthly, recurring), and your deposit for your 2 qt jar(s) (one-time fee).
Shares are $50 each for the initial buy-in, $25/month for boarding fees, plus a one-time $5 glass jar deposit. Each share you purchase gets you 1/2 gallon of fresh, local raw milk a week. (If you need a gallon/week, buy 2 shares.)
For example, Leah would like 1/2 gallon of milk per week. Her initial cost, due before her first pick up is
$50 (one-time buy-in) + $25 (recurring monthly boarding fee) + $5 (one-time glass jar deposit) = $80
Leah's recurring monthly cost is just the recurring $25 boarding fee and she receives a 1/2 gallon of fresh, local, raw, A2A2 milk a week.
Don't like milk?
If you're not a milk drinker, we also offer dairy swaps!
Trade your weekly share for butter, cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, or chocolate milk for no additional cost!
Or buy TWO shares - one for milk and one for dairy swaps!
